Finishing a late watch at the Surf Life Saving station means packing up and leaving at 1:20 am, while the coast is quiet and the next crew may still be hours away. An alarm at this exact time can mark the handover, equipment check or moment to lock up, rather than waiting until the tidier but less useful 2:00 am.
A station handover depends on the alarm remaining available after it has been set, so the browser needs to stay running while you finish your last tasks. If the browser or its tab is closed, or the phone is allowed to sleep, the station alarm will not sound. Checking the volume before returning to the gear room also avoids discovering too late that the alert was muted or routed somewhere you could not hear it.
