For a request about personal information, provide enough detail for us to locate the relevant correspondence, but wait for a secure method before sharing sensitive evidence. We may ask a limited follow-up question to distinguish one request from another.

Messages are reviewed on working days. Weekends, national public holidays, Matariki, Mondayised holidays and the relevant regional anniversary day can extend a response time. Email delivery is not guaranteed, so retain a copy of anything important. We reply in English and aim to use plain language. Abusive, automated or unrelated submissions may be filtered. The islands share one civil time, with the Chatham Islands offset by a further 45 minutes. Daylight saving usually shifts the relationship with overseas cities, which may change their clocks on different dates. School years are divided into four terms, and traffic patterns change during the breaks. Waitangi Day, ANZAC Day and Matariki can change trading, transport and public-service hours.
