Online alarm clock for 12:10 am
Before handing the overnight duty to someone else, set the 12:10 am alarm so they are ready to take the international call on UK time. Leave them the caller’s name, the expected topic, and any notes they may need. If the conversation is delayed, there are still 50 minutes before 1:00 am to confirm who remains responsible.
Because responsibility is changing hands, keep the alarm page running where the person covering the call can hear it. Check the volume and make sure the alert is armed before you step away. Closing the browser or allowing the computer to sleep stops the alarm, which could leave the international call unanswered. For a handover that cannot be watched continuously, arrange a separate alarm on a device that will stay awake.
After the call, avoid filling the rest of the night without checking what comes next on the same calendar day. Write down the next commitment and allow enough time to finish notes, send a brief handover update, and settle back into the New Zealand night. If another task follows soon after 1:00 am, keep its preparation separate so details from the UK conversation are not carried into the wrong work.
