Going to bed for a 5:00 am alarm

  • Asleep by 7:45 pm — 6 full sleep cycles, about 9 hours
  • Asleep by 9:15 pm — 5 full sleep cycles, about 7 hours
  • Asleep by 10:45 pm — 4 full sleep cycles, about 6 hours

A sleep cycle runs about 90 minutes, and most people take around 15 minutes to drop off. Waking at the end of a cycle feels easier than waking in the middle of one.

Online alarm clock for 5:00 am

Waiting for the moment to check the avalanche bulletin can make the dark predawn minutes feel longer than they are. Set the alarm for 5:00 am, then leave the page visible while you finish packing your map, layers, and food for the track. When it sounds, treat that as the cue to read the current bulletin before making any decision about the route.

With your avalanche check depending on the alert, confirm that the device can actually make a sound. Raise the media volume, switch off silent mode, and use the test control if one is shown; a visible countdown alone does not prove that you will hear it. If the browser stops running or the computer goes to sleep, the alarm may not sound, so your avalanche bulletin check could be missed. Keep a separate alarm as backup when timing affects whether you set out.

Once the bulletin has been checked, decide immediately whether you are staying up or returning to bed. If the track plan is for later, dim the screen, prepare anything needed beforehand, and set a second alarm before settling down again. That protects the sleep left after 5:00 am from being broken by repeated clock checks. If you are leaving soon, keep the room quiet and movements simple so others in the house can keep sleeping.
