Online alarm clock for 5:15 pm
Waking at 5:15 pm with the kayak still untouched means the first job is getting properly awake and checking how soon the tide will turn. There are 45 minutes before 6:00 pm, enough for a focused pack-up if the paddle, spray skirt, dry bag, and tie-downs are gathered before moving the hull. That leaves less chance of discovering a loose strap when the water is already changing.
For a kayak pack-up, the alarm needs to be audible over rustling gear and activity outside. The chosen alarm time can stay on screen while preparations begin, but silent mode may suppress the sound even when the timer appears to be running. The browser must also remain active and the phone awake; otherwise the kayak may not be cleared before the tide changes. A separate clock alarm is a sensible backup when timing matters.
A kayak left near the water can become harder to sort as late-afternoon visibility shifts. Before starting, placing straps and small fittings in an evenly lit spot avoids hunting through deep shadows later. At 5:15 pm, glare may still come from the western sky in many parts of New Zealand, so turning the hull or moving gear out of direct sun can make buckles and knots easier to see.
