Going to bed for a 7:15 am alarm

  • Asleep by 10:00 pm — 6 full sleep cycles, about 9 hours
  • Asleep by 11:30 pm — 5 full sleep cycles, about 7 hours
  • Asleep by 1:00 am — 4 full sleep cycles, about 6 hours

A sleep cycle runs about 90 minutes, and most people take around 15 minutes to drop off. Waking at the end of a cycle feels easier than waking in the middle of one.

Online alarm clock for 7:15 am

While you watch the clock after the morning milking, set the alarm for 7:15 am so the cows stay put until the planned release. That leaves a clear marker between finishing in the shed and opening the gate, with 8:00 am still well ahead for the next job on the farm.

Before relying on the alarm for the cows, set a brief test signal and confirm that its sound is loud enough to hear from where you will be waiting. Restore 7:15 am after the check and leave the volume at the tested level. If this page is closed or the phone or computer falls asleep, the alarm may not sound, which could delay releasing the cows; keep the page open, the equipment awake, and a separate farm alarm ready if timing is critical.

Once the herd is moving at 7:15 am, the early New Zealand sun can already warm an exposed yard, especially in summer. If you return to an air-conditioned cab or office afterward, set the cooling moderately rather than stepping straight from outdoor heat into a very cold space. Park the vehicle in shade when available, carry water for the next round of work, and check that gates and races are clear before the day becomes hotter.
